This was not normal for me.
This was stepping outside of my comfort zone,
but it felt right...
Last night my mom came over to our apartment (WOTY: Celebrate). We went for a 4-mile walk (WOTY), but about 1 mile into the walk she asked if I wanted to walk to Betty's house. Betty used to babysit me and we have kept in touch since then. So we walked the second mile and to our good fortune, Betty was outside. She had to leave in about 20 min. but we had the great opportunity to see her and chance to catch-up (WOTY).
We walked back to the apartment and had a glass a wine while we deliberated our dinner plans. We decided to go to Papa Murphy's grab a spinach-artichoke-chicken pizza, bring it home and cook it. As we passed through the aparment lobby, there she was...that lady I have been meaning to say "Hello" to for several months. I've seen her on her patio, in the lobby and outside and she's always by herself looking like she wants to talk with someone. So I walked up to her, introduced myself and my mom to her and we chatted for awhile (WOTY). Her story: She moved into the Madison, WI apartment from nothern WI in May. Her husband recently passed away from nine years of on/off fighting brain cancer. Her daughter lives in McFarland, so she had decided to move to Madison. The interaction felt comfortable, she and my mom had something in common so I invited her to join us for pizza dinner. She said yes (WOTY). I got her phone number and told her that we would call her when we got back and got the pizza in the oven.
The pizza was cooking, so I called her and she was knocking on the door in about five minutes. We all shared parts of our "stories" and it was an enjoyable 90 minutes. We all exchanged phone numbers and said "Good Night."
I don't know if anything more will become of this spur-of-the-moment encounter, but it I hope it made a difference in her life because it did in mine...
