Learning to Zentangle

"Zentangling" ... Have you heard of it?

According to the official Zentangle website, "Anything is Possible One Stroke at a Time. At first glance, a Zentangle creation can seem intricate and complicated. But, when you learn how it is done, you realize how simple it is . . . sort of like learning the secret behind a magic trick. Then, when you create a piece of Zentangle art, you realize how fun and engrossing the process itself is." Here are some examples from the website:
It was a fun experience and very relaxing. In fact the instructor said she normally creates a Zentangle before going to bed. The Zentangle website says, "We all need to relax from stress now and then. The Zentangle Method offers a quick way to intentionally redirect your focus and enter a relaxed state almost immediately."

I encourage you to take a look at the Zentangle website or the class instructor, Diane Knauff's, website.

Jim and I walked 3.1 miles today to honor Mary Billmeyer, my co-worker's mom, who passed away a few years ago. She loved Home Talent Baseball and this shelter in Cross Plains, WI was built in her honor. The weather at 8:00am was PERFECT!

New Classes Started This Week

Taught 15-15-15 Core for MSCR (Madison School Community Recreation) last night, had 13 participants and guess who was in the class?  Janet and Phil from the home page.  I haven't taught classes on the East side of Madison for about a year so it's been about that long since I've seen them.  They're still looking GREAT!  AND... another participant that I haven't seen in about 2 years, Patrice.  She's looking great and glad to have her back!

Tonight Strong Women classes started again.  There were a lot of new faces, but they did great!  We did several exercises with ankle weights and hand weights and strengthened those ab and back muscles.

Since the first day of summer is June 21, the music theme was Summertime and some of the songs in the playlist: Let the Sunshine, Hot Summer Nights, Hot Stuff, Summer of '69, Vacation, The Boys of Summer,  and Summer Nights.

I hope that you can get outside and enjoy the first day of summer!

Jim hurt his back a few days before needing to drive six hours north for a work meeting, so I went along to help with the driving.  It's been six years since I've been here and oh, how I've missed this little piece of heaven! It's such a relaxing, beautiful little town. These photos are of the back yard of our hotel with Lake Superior in the background. Tulips were still blooming and the peonies hadn't even started blossoming yet since they've had such a long winter. Tulips were gone weeks ago and the peonies are done blooming at home. I HIGHLY recommend this short jaunt north for a weekend trip. You won't be sorry!

Garage Sale 2014
They're soooo much work and usually not highly profitable, but they are priceless.  "How so?" you ask. Our rule...once it goes to the driveway, it doesn't come back in the house. Yes, we made some money (but still had to go to work on Monday), the weather couldn't have been better and we still had a trunk load to take to Savers, but we are feelin' lighter, so it was well worth the effort!
P.S. Oh, the stories you hear from people are so interesting, too. I think they could be a blog all on their own. What stories have you heard at garage sales?

May 31, 2014 - 2nd Annual Race for the Cure Walk with my mom. It was a GORGEOUS morning, sunny and low 70's. Mom is in her mid 60's and kept up with me, if not surpassed me a few times, on this 3.1 mile stroll around the Lakeside neighborhood in Madison, WI.

....and of course we stopped at Caribou Coffee for foo foo coffee afterwards.

Love You, Mom!

I am a late bloomer in the fitness world. At the age of 45 I received my group fitness instructor certification and two years later my health coaching certification.

I led my fomer employer's wellness program for 13 years and I teach fitness classes part-time for the local city recreation program.

I am certified to teach, Punk Rope, Kettlebell AMPD, Strong Women, Strong Women Healthy Hearts and enjoy teaching a combination of yoga/Pilates.

To date one of my proudest fitness moments occurred at the end of 2013.  In December 2012 I set a goal to run a 5k each month in 2013. I ran 11 5k's and climbed 47 flights of stairs in the Fight For Air Climb the remaining month.

As Dr. Kenneth Cooper, Cooper Institute says, "We do not stop exercising because we grow old - we grow old because we stop exercising."

    Keep moving!
    Be social!
    Stay strong!
    Eat well!
    Live long!
